African wild dogs | GaiaZOO

Species: African wild dog
Size: 1.900m2
Design: October 2015 – January 2016
Status: opened in spring 2016

GaiaZOO opend in spring 2016 their new African wild dog exhibit after a large renovation. The former logistics road in the back was relocated, giving the opportunity to expand the exhibit. Hills were created to give the large exhibit more diversity, but also to give the visitors the opportunity to see the animals laying the grass in the back of the area. Key element is a small brook that ends in a large pond. This brook and pond drain the water from the soil, making it a green exhibit with a lot of grass. The exhibit exists of an open grassy landscape and a more forested area. The former trees that had to be removed, were reused in the exhibit as bridges over the pond. The design is made together with the curator, engineer and staff of GaiaZOO.
